At the School Table on January 29

Image
1.  We reviewed chapters 29 and 30 of SoTW, answering all the questions. 2. We finished reading Open the Door to Liberty, Biography of Toussaint L'Ouverture and McLean wrote a response to the book. Toussaint L'Ouverture being a kind-hearted and intelligent leader of Haiti fought for peace and prosperity. But Napoleon, a power-hungry dictator wanted Toussaint out of Haiti. Napoleon, combined with the hateful Haitian, Dessalines, eventually lost the battle but captured Toussaint and put him in a French prison where he died. I believe that Toussaint was a great leader who wasn't there for power or riches. It was really unfortunate that Toussaint ended up getting captured. I also love how Napoleon said that his biggest regret was not working with Toussaint.  3. We went over McLean's HW sentences  ( Write 4 sentences about our discussion at the table and/or what you are reading  TSotW  using two complex sentences and two sentences with adjective clauses.) Toussaint ...

 1. McLean finished answering the questions from ch. 25. We discussed the questions from Story of the World ch. 25 2. We discussed the idea of fairy tales and McLean told me the French version of Cinderella (the most common one). We then read "Little Burnt Face," a Native American Cinderella-type story. She wrote this response to that story: Little Burnt Face This reminds me of the time when I first read this story. I didn't remember a lot of the details, but after reading it again, it feels like I just read it for the first time. I wonder why only Little Burnt Face could see the chief. Was it because she was pure of heart? Was she the only pure of heart girl in the entire village. So the big idea is always be kind and happiness will come. And then she created a found poem from her response above: But I just wonder why? Why could I see? Why can't I remember the details? It feels like burnt time. Because I was pure of heart. 3. We played "The Storming of the Basti...

The Halloween Scare

Image
It was Halloween and a few of Felicia's spider babies had just gotten done trick or treating. Exhausted from the fun, they were on their way home and just as they were turning the corner, Boo! A monster popped out of the bushes. The spiders shrieked and zoomed down the street to their house. On one the younger spiders, James, asked, "What was that?" in a scared tone.  "I don't know," said one of the older spiders. Claire, the oldest spider, said, "It looked like a demon mask." The younger spider spoke up saying she hurt her ankle; they would soon find out that it was broken. They all gasped and were now determined to find this masked monster. They grabbed their flashlights and set off. They started looking in the bushes where they were spooked, but not even five minutes in, they saw Seymour, the friendliest person. Seymour enjoyed helping others and knowing this information, they explained their situation and Seymour decided to help. Seymour asked ...
