At the School Table 1/15
1. McLean finished answering the questions from ch. 25.
We discussed the questions from Story of the World ch. 25
2. We discussed the idea of fairy tales and McLean told me the French version of Cinderella (the most common one). We then read "Little Burnt Face," a Native American Cinderella-type story. She wrote this response to that story:
Little Burnt Face
This reminds me of the time when I first read this story. I didn't remember a lot of the details, but after reading it again, it feels like I just read it for the first time. I wonder why only Little Burnt Face could see the chief. Was it because she was pure of heart? Was she the only pure of heart girl in the entire village. So the big idea is always be kind and happiness will come.
And then she created a found poem from her response above:
But I just wonder why?
Why could I see?
Why can't I remember the details?
It feels like burnt time.
Because I was pure of heart.
3. We played "The Storming of the Bastille" and McLean won. : )
4. McLean spent the rest of the time answering questions from ch. 26.
On Monday, we will discuss Baba Yaga and Russian folk tales, go over chapters 27-28 and assign those questions, discuss No Summit Out of Sight, and hopefully begin the journal purchased for this semester. We will work on a found poem from a page of the BY story.
