October 16
At the school room table today, we:
1. Reviewed the chapter 13 and 14 homework questions from The Story of the World.
2. Reviewed complex sentences and compound sentences. After watching two short videos about Versaille, McLean wrote a complex sentence about what she learned. After watching a short video about how the lands and flags of Germany have changed over time, McLean wrote a compound sentence about those changes.
3. Introduction to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon: We talked about Chinese characters and learned how to write mountain and moon.
We also talked about symbolism and "homonyms" in Chinese culture, and McLean wrote them in her notebook to prepare for reading the book:
9--forever
4--death
fish and pearls--good fortune
red--happiness
blue--immortality and gods/goddesses
McLean wrote complex and compound sentences about Chinese culture.
