3. Choose two German fairy tales to read. Fill in the Plot diagram for one Character Change for another.
*If you would rather use a movie or another story, that's fine.
At the table we:
1. Discussed this week's chapters in SotW and filled out the map of France during the Sun King's reign (Louis XIV 1638- 1715) and Prussia during the reign of Frederick I (1657- 1713). McLean prepared her notebook for the questions she will answer on these two chapters.
2. We discussed literary elements: plot, setting, character, theme, etc.
We specifically discussed different aspects of characters and characterization: protagonist, antagonist, round and flat, dynamic and static, physical appearance, actions/speech/behavior and interactions with others. We read "The Frog Prince" from The Classic Grimm's Fairytales and discussed the direct and indirect characterization of the princess.
3. We finished "Paddle-to-the-Sea!" We talked about how unique a setting-driven story is (most are character and/or plot driven) and McLean wrote a response to the last part of the book:
At the end of "Paddle-to-the-Sea," it shows the journey that Paddle took and how long it took. This made me think about how the story didn't rely on characters, it relied on the setting. How does the story mostly focus on the setting but still keep our interest? Maybe it is the poetry or the pictures with their vivid colors.
4. I took McLean's journal to look over this week, so she doesn't have a journal entry in this week's HW.
