Table Work from 9/25

Today at the School Room Table

We went over the questions for chapters 7 and 8.

We talked about King James and his "campaign" against tobacco.

We talked through a slideshow of First Ladies and their causes.

McLean chose a cause (as if she were a First Lady): Children and their mental health, especially in conjunction with the school system.

King James wrote an essay to get his message out; McLean chose to create online and in-person clubs to work on this issue. Surveys would also help to know what to change. The online part of her cause might include some kind of chat app, teaching coping mechanisms for anxiety, offering counseling. Big events could bring these students together. This would touch on suicides, addictions, and bad habits.

Symbol-- semicolon--McLean should spend some time this weekend thinking about the symbol and motto that her movement for mental health awareness would use.

We discussed the first half of Part 2 of Wonder Struck

We went over the Direct Object/Indirect Object worksheet and wrote a "letter to the editor" about the cause that McLean chose while we were talking about history.

We read a few chapters of Paddle-to-Sea
