At the school room table today we: 

  • Finished up The Story of the World Chapter 3 questions and went over them
  • Completed all the maps for chapters 4, 5, and 6
  • Talked about Guy Fawkes Day
  • Reviewed prepositions
  • Read "The Little Match Girl" and wrote a reading response:

In the story "The Little Match Girl" there was snow everywhere and the girl was getting frost bite. Freezing, the girl lit matches to herself warm, but the warmth wouldn't last long. In one of the paragraphs, it said that the girl was poor and abused; this made me think that she had lots of trauma and nowhere to go that was safe. Based on the fact that the girl was begging for her grandmother to take her with her, I can infer that the girl wanted to die and she felt she had nothing to live for.

We began today talking about the difference between England/UK/Britain/British Isles/etc. and filled out the map and chart for that.  McLean wrote a response to this: I wonder why the Republic of Ireland isn't a part of the crown. I bet most people from Canada and Australia don't really care about the fact that British technically rule over them.
