At the school room table today we:
1. Went over Nouns, verbs, and adjectives and the HW to do with that. We will have more homework with this on Monday.
2. Talked about Don Quixote and used Reading Response Sheet to write this response to the book:
On page 8-9 of Don Quixote, the main character Don Quixote thought that there was a monstrous giant. What he was really looking at was just a windmill. Based on what happened on page nine, I can predict that he will have more misadventures similar to this. I can relate this to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where Ron and Harry get stuck in the romping willow just like how Don Quixote got stuck in the windmill. --McLean
3. We reviewed the questions from Chapters 1 and 2 of The Story of the World and measured a few things to help us understand 500 billion. (Crazy!)
4. We made up the following story for McLean to illustrate/substitute words just as Selznick does in his books.
Greg the snail wasn't happy with his weight, so he started working out. He started running marathons, and now he's a body builder. It started out as a hobby but became his job eventually.
In his free time, he hangs out with his friend Seymour the Snake who volunteers at the library to read books to the . He is often found puppet shows with his tail for the children.
One day Greg and Seymour were hanging out and they decided to volunteer to do fun crafts with the young animals at the library together. Unfortunately neither Greg nor Seymour was very coordinated (having no arms makes it hard) so one of them who will remain anonymous knocked over the glitter glue and paint and all the crafts were ruined and all poor little hatchlings were stuck together in a crying mess, their beautiful crafts ruined. Greg and Seymour both tried to help the children, but of course, they both got stuck themselves.
The rabbit librarian, a sweet kind woman named Bethany, rushed in to see what all the ruckus was about. Wisely, with wet hands, she got them unstuck. Outside the library, she turned on the sprinklers and set up a slip and slide so that the hatchlings and Greg and Seymour could play and wash off before the parents came to pick them up.
And all was happy in the end.
